This species is native to India and the Pacific Ocean, but it is found in the north and south of Taiwan, the east coast of Australia in Fraser Island, New Guinea and the west of the Persian Gulf. In nature, this species is scattered in such a way that it returns to the mouth of the river or sea waters for reproduction. They are an important aquaculture species in the Indo-Pacific region that are produced in both fresh and salt water. This species grows from 400 to 4000 grams depending on the production system and the market. It is a healthy food with a high proportion of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, including DHA and EPA.
