The Pacific white shrimp is native to the eastern Pacific coast from Sonora, Mexico in the north, through Central and South America to the south of Tumbes in Peru, in areas where the water temperature is usually over 20°C throughout the year. Vanami shrimp live in tropical marine habitats. From Mexico to Peru, most countries developed large production areas in the 70s and 80s. Ecuador became one of the leading producers of this type of shrimp. Around the turn of the millennium, Asia introduced this species in its aquaculture operations. China, Vietnam, India and Iran have also become the main packaging. Shrimp meat is an excellent source of protein. In addition, shrimp muscle is composed of highly unsaturated fatty acids such as EPA and DHA, which are considered essential acids. Shrimp meat is also a good source of minerals such as calcium.
